A“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”Albert EinsteinIf you have a kid with special needs in the school system, chances are you have come across that saying hanging on a classroom wall. My fiveyearold daughter Syona has cerebral palsy(腦癱) and it means, combined with her communication challenges and sight problems, that standard assessments (and by “standard”, I mean the ones used to assess kids with special needs) aren't always an accurate measure of her abilities. By now you have probably heard about Chris Ulmer, the 26yearold teacher in Jacksonville, Florida, who starts his special education class by calling up each student individually to give them much admiration and a high five. I couldn't help but be reminded of Syona's teacher and how he supports each kid in a very similar way. Ulmer recently shared a video of his teaching experience. “I have seen their confidence and selfworth increase rapidly,” he said. All I could think was: How lucky these students are to have such a inspirational teacher. Syona's teacher has an attitude that can best be summarized in one word: awesome. Her teacher doesn't focus on what can't be doneshe focuses on what can be done. Over the past several months, my husband Dilip and I have seen Syona's confidence increase tenfold. She uses words she wouldn't have thought of using before. She recently told me about her classmate's trip to Ecuador and was very proud when I understood her on the first try. I actually wonder what the influence would be if we did something similar to what Ulmer does with his students in our home. We've recently started our day by reminding each other of the good qualities we all possess. If we are reminded of our strengths on a regular basis, we will become increasingly confident about progress and success.Ulmer's reach as a teacher goes far beyond the walls of his classroom. In fact, he teaches all of us to take a moment and truly appreciate the strengths of an important person in our lives.【文章大意】本文是一篇夾敘夾議文。 By now you have probably heard about Chris Ulmer, the 26yearold teacher in Jacksonville,F(xiàn)lorida, who starts his special education class by calling up each student individually to give them much admiration and a high five.(第三段第一句) 分析:該句為主從復(fù)合句。該句中who引導(dǎo)非限制性定語(yǔ)從句,補(bǔ)充說(shuō)明先行詞Chris Ulmer;句中the 26yearold teacher in Jacksonville,F(xiàn)lorida為Chris Ulmer 的同位語(yǔ)。 1What does the underlined “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?AThe cerebral palsy with Syona.BThe saying on a classroom wall.CThe standard for kids with special needs.DThe accurate measure of Syona's abilities. 根據(jù)第二段第二句中的“My fiveyearold daughter Syona has cerebral palsy(腦癱) and it means, combined with her communication challenges and sight problems”可知,it指代“Syona has cerebral palsy(腦癱)”,故A項(xiàng)正確。2What can we learn about Chris Ulmer? AHe is Syona's favorite teacher. BHe helps increase his students' confidence. CHe uses videos to teach his students. DHe asks his students to help each other. 根據(jù)第三段倒數(shù)第二句中的“I have seen their confidence and selfworth increase rapidly”可知,Chris Ulmer的教學(xué)能幫助他的學(xué)生快速提高自信和自我價(jià)值感,故B項(xiàng)正確。3Why did Syona feel very pleased in the fourth paragraph? AShe has developed a positive attitude. BHer mother knew what she expressed. CHer progress was appreciated by her parents. DShe had been to Ecuador with her classmate. 根據(jù)第四段最后一句“She recently told me about her classmate's trip to Ecuador and was very proud when I understood her on the first try”可知,由于Syona的媽媽在Syona第一次嘗試時(shí)就理解了Syona的意思,故Syona感到非常自豪,故B項(xiàng)正確。4What change has taken place in the author's family?AThey invite Ulmer's students to their home.BThey visit Ulmer's classroom regularly.CThey feel grateful to people in their lives.DThey give each other praise every day. 根據(jù)第五段第一、二句“I actually wonder what the influence would be if we did something similar to what Ulmer does with his students in our home. We've recently started our day by reminding each other of the good qualities we all possess”可知,我們模仿特教老師Chris Ulmer的教學(xué)方法,在家里互相表?yè)P(yáng)對(duì)方,故D項(xiàng)正確。BBelgium is the land of music festivals. defensive or even dismiss the critique entirely. But handling negative feedback with grace will not only make you look gracious, but it could ultimately help you grow as a person. Here's how to do it.1Be objective about the criticismBefore you jump to conclusions and begin to challenge the other person's opinion, take a step back and look at it objectively.Next time you get a bad review, don't immediately allow your emotions to get the better of you,but rather, take a moment to consider whether the criticism is at all accurate._2_2Avoid unnecessary conflictIf you decide that the point is valid,it may be hard to take.In your discomfort, you may feel the urge to criticize the other person angrily and defend yourself._3_3Be open to the idea of change_4_ And it may be because of a concept called “cognitive dissonance” that can prevent us from changing even when that's what we need most.4Ask questionsIf you're open to using the criticism as a springboard to improvement, you will likely need more information._5_ Your emotions will be running high, and you may not be particularly receptive to extra information. However, when you feel ready,it could be worth revisiting the subject with the person who criticized you.Even if you don't agree with their advice, thank them and promise to consider it.AMost of us are pretty stubborn.BThere is no doubt that change is necessary.CBut it's best to avoid getting into an argument.DBeing sensitive to criticism leads you nowhere.EIt challenges the way you believe people see you.FGive yourself a chance to really take in the information and evaluate it.GThe initial moment you hear it may not be the best time to ask for more details.【解題導(dǎo)語(yǔ)】聽(tīng)到別人對(duì)你的批評(píng)也許會(huì)很痛苦,但是如果優(yōu)雅地處理這些問(wèn)題,自己將變得更好。 2F根據(jù)空前的“don't immediately allow your emotions to get the better of you,but rather, take a moment to consider whether the criticism is at all accurate”可知,空處應(yīng)講給自己一個(gè)機(jī)會(huì)真正吸收這些信息并對(duì)其進(jìn)行評(píng)估。 4A根據(jù)空后的“And it may be because of a concept calledcognitive dissonance that can prevent us from changing even when that's what we need most”及本段小標(biāo)題可知,A項(xiàng)“我們大部分人都很倔強(qiáng)”符合語(yǔ)境。5G根據(jù)空后的“Your emotions will be running high, and you may not be particularly receptive to extra information”并結(jié)合上文可知,空處應(yīng)講最開(kāi)始聽(tīng)到批評(píng)時(shí)不適合問(wèn)更多的細(xì)節(jié),故G項(xiàng)符合語(yǔ)境。 Dear use of time.Do you have any good ideas?Tell me I will be grateful to you.I'm looking forward to from you. 第二處:that改為which??疾槎ㄕZ(yǔ)從句。 疾楣潭ù钆洹ail to do sth. because of后面跟名詞、代詞或動(dòng)名詞作賓語(yǔ),文中其后跟的是從句,應(yīng)用because來(lái)引導(dǎo),故刪除of。第五處:the改為a?? 該處表示“再給自己一次機(jī)會(huì)”,a second full use of“充分利用”。第九處:or改為and。 捌硎咕鋋nd句子”,and表示順承關(guān)系;“祈使句or句子”,or表示“否則”。 look forward to短語(yǔ)中to是介詞,后面跟名詞、代詞或動(dòng)名詞作賓語(yǔ)。 When Dad told me I was going to take a scuba diver training course, I was really excited.I thought Id be like those people on TV, _1_ (play) with _10_ (it)語(yǔ)篇解讀:本文主要講述了作者初次學(xué)潛水的經(jīng)歷及感悟。 3and根據(jù)語(yǔ)境可知,take off, replace和clear是三個(gè)連續(xù)的動(dòng)作,故填連詞and。4was terrifiedsb.is/was terrified表示“某人感到害怕”,再結(jié)合下文的made excuse可知,應(yīng)填was terrified。 7closed此處是with復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu),即:with名詞/代詞非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞,在句子中作狀語(yǔ)。 9
