111 Teaching Goals: 1. To develop Ss’ listening ability. 2. To review some useful everyday English. 3. To develop Ss’ writing ability. 4. Enable the students to be prepared for the interview in the future. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Leading-in Purpose: To arouse Ss’ interest in listening. Get Ss to watch a presentation about an interview. And ask some questions, such as: What are they doing? How many questions do the interviewers ask and how does the interviewee answer their questions? Step 2 Listening Purpose: To develop Ss’ listening ability and study some useful everyday English. 1. Pre-listening Ask Ss to read through the questions, make sure they understand the questions and then ask them to guess what the listening material is about. Suggested answers: Claire is applying for a temporary position. Listen to Part 2of the interview and check whether Claire asked your question. Ask the Ss to answer any questions they can in Activity 3 and 4. Listen to the tape again, and check the answers. Suggested answers (Activity 3): (1)19 (2) French and Business Studies (3) French and Italian (4)1200 (5)08:30 to 18:00 (6) Monday to Saturday (7) the first of July (8)3 Suggested answers (Activity 4): 1 M 2 M 3 M 4 M 5 C 6 C 7 C 8C 3. Post-listening Ask the students to finish the Everyday English individually and then check the answers and give some explanation. Suggested answers: (1)b (2) a (3) b (4) a (5) a Explanation (1)nightmare n.夢魘, 惡夢, 可怕的事物 (2)somehow adv.設法,想辦法,想個方法;不知道怎樣,不曉得什么緣故。 I must get it finished somehow. 我總得想辦法把它做完才行。 He somehow dropped behind. 他不曉得怎么落后了。 somehow or other 設法;想辦法,不曉得為什么。 (3)roughly adv.粗糙地;粗暴地;粗俗地;粗略地。 roughly estimated 粗略地估計起來。 roughly speaking 粗略地說來。 (4)假期的幾種說法 vacation 指時間可長可短的假期,無復數形式; holiday多指短期假日, go on holidays(去度假), summer holidays(暑假)中常用復數; leave 多指病假或事假. 常用搭配有: on holiday/ vacation在度假; have/ take a day度假; ask for leave請假; have/ take a day off請一天假 e.g. In order to look after her sick mother, she asked for a month’s leave .(因事或病而請的假) Step 3 Speaking(Pair work) Purpose: Enable the students to know what to prepare for a job interview. Ask the Ss work in pairs, and role-play a job interview. Student A can act a manager and student B is a candidate. They can choose any job and any situation. Step 4 Reading and Writing Purpose: To develop Ss’ writing ability and enable Ss to know how to write a letter to apply for a job. 1. Read the job advertisements and the reply below individually. Say which job the writer is applying for. Suggested answer: The writer is applying for a temporary position as a waiter from Major Catering Company 2. Read the reply again and analyze how the writer writes a reply. 3. Write a letter asking about one of the other jobs, and pay attention to the followings: ※Say which job you are interested in. ※Say how old you are and when you can work. ※Say what experience you have or don’t have. ※Ask for more information. Sample: Dear sir, ??????I'm??a 17-year-old?student. The summer holiday is coming, so I'm writing in response to your ad for a temporary position as a?salesman. ??????I had some experience?as a?salesman?last summer?holiday. Because I?helped?my?uncle in?his store, after that?I know?something about selling. I?am good at??Mandarin?and I can speak English very well. I?enjoy working with people, too.
