Our present aerospace companies are gradually disappearing as private space concerns are being born every day. I'm going to discuss three spacebased businesses that are sure to soon influence us all.First we have to make space travel cheaply and safely. Engine design is the main challenge. To make money in space, the cost of space travel will have to diminish. This problem will be the most difficult to solve. Liquid fueled rockets are the only way to get out of Earth's orbit. Finding new ways to power the flight to space is also another big challenge.Finding the key to cheap space travel might be the biggest story of our times. There are a lot of great minds working on this problem. And companies are pouring money into research and development. In the next few years we'll see the first suborbital tourist. And not long after that we should really start to see new and exciting things as competition heats up.Spacecraft design and production will naturally follow rocket technology. All sorts of crafts will be needed for the wide uses they'll be tasked with. Several companies in the United States have already made small, lowcost test vehicles.Resources in space will provide great mining profits to those who can afford the cost of setting up such a huge operation. Can you imagine finding a huge asteroid(小行星) of pure gold? The benefit to mankind is limitless. Mining on other planets, like Mars, also adds CO2 into the very thin atmosphere. Over time this can lead to the formation of an atmosphere similar to Earth's.Space is going to offer us untold opportunity and wealth. But this is only going to occur if wealthy investors step forward and fund the first steps forward. It is certain that technology will take us to worlds we could never have imagined.36The passage is mainly about _Athe future of space travelBthe cost of space travel in the futureCthe development of spacecraftsDcheap travel in the future37The underlined word “diminish” in Paragraph 2 most probably means _Ago down Bbreak outCrise up Dset off38What should be done first to make travel in space cheap and safe?AA direct route from Earth to other stars should be found.BSome new kinds of fuel should be used in the rockets.CNew material should be used to build the rockets.DNew rocket engines should be designed.39According to the passage mining on other planets might help _Aincrease the travel benefits thereBform the atmosphere like Earth's thereCbring some new species thereDcreate more job opportunities there40According to the passage, the spacebased businesses are _Alikely BimaginaryCunbelievable Dvaluable課時作業(yè)(四).1.C考查固定句型。It occurs/occurred to sb. that是固定句型,意思是:突然想起,其中that引導(dǎo)主語從句,選C。 two score of eggs“四十個蛋”,score常與of連用。3CIt is/was said that sb.sb.is/was said to do 5. C由第一空后接名詞the efforts可判斷該空需用介詞,排除A、D兩項,因為because后應(yīng)接從句,而as a consequence后應(yīng)接of sth.。根據(jù)be about to不能與具體的時間狀語搭配,排除B項,故選C。 根據(jù)時間狀語over the past decade判斷本句應(yīng)使用現(xiàn)在完成時態(tài)。 It/This/That is/wasthe first timethat主語have done/had done。9B根據(jù)句中since the 1880s可推斷此處用完成時態(tài),排除D;exist無被動語態(tài),排除C;come into existence為短暫性動詞短語,排除A。 12AWhen askedWhen the man was asked,前后主語一致,可改為分詞短語作狀語。tired作the man的狀語。only to find是結(jié)果狀語,表示“(出乎意料地)發(fā)現(xiàn)”。 句中“_ to Sarah”為分詞短語作后置定語,與其邏輯主語The book為主動關(guān)系,故用現(xiàn)在分詞形式,排除B、C;第二空在句中作謂語,又根據(jù)belong to無被動語態(tài)形式,排除D,即正確答案為A。 turn over表示“翻轉(zhuǎn)”。 31A根據(jù)本句后半部分中的“do to you”可知此空應(yīng)用Do。 make a difference表示“有影響,起作用”。 根據(jù)第二段“Engine design is the main challenge.” 根據(jù)第五段“Over time this can lead to the formation of an atmosphere similar to Earth's.” 根據(jù)全文最后一句“It is certain that technology will take us to worlds we could never have imagined.”
